Guide to the Financial Spreads Mobile and Tablet Trading Apps

Crypto.com developers should copy the capital.com mobile cfd trading application for crypto trading

Currently Crypto.com application is useless for crypto trading.
Crypto.com should copy the capital.com mobile cfd trading application and use same features for Crypto.com crypto trading.
See very clear spreds, easy set stoploss, limit order, take profite... Alarm when order done etc
Crypto.com should introduce exactly same features on Crypto.com application and same easy grapic user interface
Have different spreds on trading depending on number of locked MCO.
50 MCO 5% spred fee 500 MCO 2% 5000 MCO 0%
5000+ MCO holders, stakers should have Zero spread on crypto trading
Try capital.com mobile application and introduce same features for Crypto.com crypto trading...
Then the Crypto.com application will also rock for trading
Also take features ideas from revolut, they have great features on their mobile application
When Crypto.com visa card comes to EU I will change from revolut to Crypto.com so please take all good revolut features and capital.com features to the Crypto.com mobile application as soon as possible
Thanks

Best platform in Europe to both short stocks and do long term investments in high amounts?

Hi there,
I am looking for a good platform that has a good app experience (website is optional) in the EU.
- Looking to short stocks and indexes
- Invest in commodities such as gold and silver for the long term
- Invest in international stocks for the long term
- Low fees, no hidden currency conversion costs
What can you guys recommend me? I tried DeGiro but I don't really like their mobile interface. And you can't short US stocks there. Trading212 seems to be the best option so far

UK Guide to US Options Trading

This is guide to US options trading from the UK, because I've seen countless requests of people browsing in /ukinvesting, /options, /wallstreetbets etc. about this.
First thing's first - no part of this post is to be taken as financial advice. It is a guide on how to start options trading from the UK. Options/CFD trading is a high-risk activity and most retail traders lose money.

1. CFDs vs. Options

So getting started, options and contracts for difference (CFDs) are both financial derivatives - they derive their values from an underlying security e.g. stock, indices, currency, commodities. Long story short, CFDs do not have an expiration and options do; and at the option expiration date, options give the opportunity to buy/sell the underlying (e.g. stock) at the agreed strike price. CFDs are highly directional (delta) trades where positions require ongoing financing fees by a broker, whereas options strategies allow the trader to trade time decay (theta) as well as market volatility (vega). Options provide greater flexibility in trading strategies (time/volatility trading as well as direction); however, due to this, the more complex strategies can be difficult to understand.
Spread betting allows a literal directional bet of an underlying by a certain date. It is most similar naked options - i.e. if your position moves against you enough, your broker may forcibly close your position unfavourably and/or margin call you for extra cash ("you can lose more than your initial deposit"). With options/CFDs, you can define risk by specifying a profitability range (spreads) instead to avoid this scenario. Due to spread betting being so close to gambling, it is treated as such in the UK in terms of taxation - gains are tax free. I will also add here that CFDs/options can also be used in this manner (gambling, with subsequent margin calls etc.), and that CFD brokers tend to understate the risks of these strategies, whilst almost all options brokers require elevated permissions to seek out this level of risk - this is because blowing through margin presents a risk to the broker and they would rather have commissions without the risks of the brokerage going bust. The lowest level of permissions still allows you to buy extremely highly leveraged OTM options without margin, as your max loss is limited to the amount you paid for those options.

2. Brokers

Given that options effectively open up two additional aspects of trading (time/volatility) and require additional regulatory oversight compared to CFDs/spreadbetting, there is basically no options market in the UK - the only brokers at this time are IG/Saxo, and they only do vanilla options on Forex/Indices/Commodities. Everyone else only does CFDs and/or stock (T212, Freetrade, IG, Plus500 etc.). To engage in true stock options trading, the only choice is to open an international/US brokerage account.
The two that are accessible to UK investors are Interactive Brokers (IB) and TastyWorks. Both are reputable brokers and have strong insurances for cash & securities held with them.

3. Opening an account

I will walk through some of the aspects of funding and operating a TastyWorks account from the UK, as this is my recommendation if you're here looking for a cheap way to get started.
Opening a free account on TastyWorks is easy as they are used to foreign traders (form filling within 20-60 mins - you will need a photo of proof of ID and address). It typically takes 1 day for cash accounts and 2-3 days for margin accounts to be ready for funding. My referral link if you feel this guide deserves the effort is: https://start.tastyworks.com/#/login?referralCode=GD9EGGNZYZ. (mods, happy to remove this is this guide is deemed low effort)
The account types are:

4. Funding the Account

Since trading US options is done in USD, the account must be funded in USD. As international traders, deposits must be "By Wire", assuming you do not have a US bank account - full instructions for the "By Wire" method will show up when you are approved to fund your account. With TastyWorks, UK traders have 3 options at time of writing, going from highest to lowest fee:
1) Starling Bank: ~1% commission (+flat fee TBC?)
2) CurrencyFair: typical ~0.75% commission +$20 flat fee
3) TransferWise/Revolut + UK USD Account: ~0.5% commission +$20 flat fee
TastyWorks does not accept third party transfers (accounts not in your name), so services such as Revolut and TransferWise (inc. borderless) do not work directly
4.1 Starling Bank
With Starling Bank, you can do an international wire from a GBP account directly. Easy online bank setup and probably fastest way to get started, especially if you already bank with them. Note: Starling Bank is rejecting transfers to TastyWorks 'as it sits out of our international payment provider's risk appetite' (as of 11th May) - waiting for updates
Note that other routes include a $20 flat fee charged by intermediate banks before the transfer reaches TastyWorks. Haven't got confirmation that this route is charged or if Starling includes it within their higher fee.
4.2 CurrencyFair
TastyWorks have approved transfers via CurrencyFair with a guide at: https://support.tastyworks.com/support/solutions/articles/43000435321-can-i-use-currencyfair-to-fund-my-account-
Easy to get started, but a couple hoops to jump through to confirm your transaction to TastyWorks via email.
Note that the $20 flat fee is for an intermediary bank to take their cut between CF and TastyWorks, but that is not mentioned on the CurrencyFair website.
4.3 USD account + TransferWise/Revolut
The cheapest option is to set up a USD currency account and transfer through that.
The account of choice is the Barclays USD Foreign Currency account - you need a current account with them to be able to open the USD account. HSBC also have an offering, but not had this route confirmed.
Once the USD account is open, you can transfer into it using Revolut/TransferWise (cheap) and then international (wire) transfer from Barclays account to TastyWorks (free!). Note that the Barclays USD account is still a UK bank account, so you'll need to use a SWIFT transfer from Revolut/TransferWise to turn your GBP into USD.
Note that the $20 flat fee is for an intermediary bank to take their cut between Barclays and TastyWorks, but that is not mentioned on the Barclays website.
4.4 Withdrawals
To withdraw funds, do the opposite for a deposit, noting that $45 will be charged by TastyWorks per withdrawal.

5. Getting Started

I highly, highly recommend TastyWork's education centre and their TastyTrade videos, especially if you are new to this.
Otherwise, once funded, it's as simple as downloading the app on mobile, using the browser trading screen, or downloading their full desktop platform.
That's it for the guide - happy trading, and if there are any questions, feel free to get in touch and I'll edit the answers in here. I want this to be a resource because I've helped many people get started, and it would be good to have it all in one place!

Commission free European Broker for Stock Trading and Investing

Hello All,
Everyone around the world would be thinking of investing in Stocks in this pandemic situation but would be wondering which stock broker is best to invest currently.
I currently live in Europe, and was in the same position a couple of weeks before and was doing a lot of research on this topic, and finally came up with a handful of brokers. At last, had chosen Trading 212, an UK based Stock trading/Investing broker to give it a try.I have chosen Trading 212 based on few parameters as below.
1. Commission Free:
Trading 212 is completely commission free. Saying that, your next question would be, how are they making money then. They make money from other premium services and CFDs. Being a beginner, I just want to play around with minimum cash, and not willing to pay a lot of commission for buy/sell transactions at this point of time. And Trading 212 is the place to be if you are in the similar situation. It is totally commission free for trade, no fees to Deposit and Withdraw funds for basic account, and so you can play around the stock market without your money going to big fees.
2. Suitable for Beginners:
If you are a beginner and new to stock market, Trading 212 gives you a simple to use website. They also have a mobile App that gives you the comfort to invest, track and manage your Stock portfolio anytime, anywhere. They also provides you a free practice account with fake cash, where you can improve your skills and strategies, before switching to the real account.
3. Regulated Entity:
Trading 212 is headquartered in the UK and is FCA-regulated entity. Trading 212 UK Ltd. is registered in England and Wales, authorized and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, FCA (Register number 609146). So they are trusted Stock brokers where you can invest and trade on Stocks and ETFs around Europe and US.
4. ETFs:
In case you are not ready for stocks yet, Trading 212 provides a wide range of ETFs(Exchange Traded Funds) around the world. So you can invest in a group of Stocks via ETFs of your convenience. It provides a diversification, and your investment will be safer that investing in direct stocks, as ETF investment is diversified across multiple stocks.
Its been two weeks since I started using the real account, and this is the first time ever I started investing in Stocks. With Trading 212, its so far, so good. It is simple to use and comfortable for a beginner like me.
If you are thinking of using Trading 212, create a Trading 212 Invest account using this link www.trading212.com/invite/GIXLKOeH and we both get a free share!
Hope this will help people who are still unsure of where to start and which app to use to invest in stocks. I will post more in the future on my experiences with Trading 212, Stock investing and more!
Stay Safe and Stay Healthy!!!
Declaimer: The above is only my experience. Please do your research before choosing a trading app and start investing.

Where can I find a paper (share) trading account that allows SL/TP levels?

I am searching for a low/no fee share dealing account that allows stop loss and take profit levels to be set on the order (market or limit - conditional orders would be nice to have).
I am in the UK but would imagine it's possible to use a US-based service, once the funds transfer step is sorted.
In my quest for a paper trading account (necessary for testing the platform) that allows proper SL and TP levels to be set I have found: Freetrade (only buy and sell at market / mobile app) - I am using (trialing with small amounts) for long term investing. It's fine for that
Trading212 (has limit orders but no simultaneous SL/TP - it will only allow a sell order to be manually added retroactively to the value of a position that is already filled) - I've been using this for my paper trading over 18 months or so, to prove my strategy is valid. I have a reasonable profit and now want to scale up with real money.
IG (from their own FAQ: "you can only add stops or limits to spread bets or CFD trades" and there is no paper trading at all for the regular stocks/shares, only CFD/spreads)
IB (very ugly Trader Workstation desktop app, that cannot remember login/password. With a secure password that would get very tedious. It does have SL/TP on both desktop/Mac TW software and their IBKR web-based platform - both are ugly as hell with very poor UI)
Have I missed an alternative? I know IB has an API that can connect to other platforms in theory, but being on Mac, and based on their generally bad UI and customer support that seems maybe not worth the hassle.

Banca internacional #07 CH – Investment banking, arbitrage, crypto y hedging diario

Background

Newbees to CFD topic

Ok, so here's my CFD strategy. I use CFD to balance out my Investment account losses. There is a method in the madness. Listen up. I'm a complete newbie for this and an un-educated moron.
  1. 75% of my portfolio is in investment and 25% is in the CFD acc. I only use the CFD to balance losses on a bad week. I work on the % bases not on the £ bases. So If I'm 1.2% down like this week I'm looking to find a CFD strategy what balance this 1.2% back and I like a to have a tolerance upwards but not too greedy.
  2. I started to trade on Limit\Stop basis and not on market order. It helps to have a structure on my trades. This is not apply every time especially in crypto but we will talk about it later. I stoped doing Market Order when I realised I'm pissing my money away trading by looking at the screen and not trusting my chart work. I use to press the button waaaaay toooo early and I seriously lost a big pile of tendies on this. So now I dow my charts and my DD and I have an entry point and a set of strategy of exiting the trade both up and down.
  3. I don't trade from my phone. This sounds like a retarded thing since this is a forum for a trading app and Trading212 guys would probably kick me out for this but I don't do orders on the phone unless it is a total emergency and I mean it's a fuckup on my bit like I forgot to do some essentials. And the good thing is - I don't need to. I don't need to look at my phone cause as I sad I don't do Market Orders so I have my buy and my sell and my stop loss and my take profit set up and I'm only using my mobile to monitor my trade I set up earlier.
  4. I don't like trading crypto on T212.. I'm sorry but it's just.. there's many other specific crypto derivative trading sites with better conditions. However! Over the weekend if you think you have a good speal put it on and this is the time when I do go into market order cause I'm convinced that crypto stuff is just a bloody lottery game.
  5. Trading 212 has a massive educational support and they let you use a Practice account! Use it! Learn the functions and learn the instruments you are trading! I'm total new here, I'm talking total shite but it took me weeks to memorise the ranges, numbers, functions and here's a thing - DO REAL MONEY. OK, I started doing the practice stuff and I started feeling like and idiot. If you do get it right and if you do make a gain contract you don't get shit. If you loose money you just go back and loose more. What I did is I started using small pool of a £100 and I multiplied it in my head so let's say a position of a £10 was a 100quid for me. I lost a sizeable chunk of that money and as I was writing my trade book I got pissed off cause I was pissing my money away. That stopped me doing stupid shit like focusing on a 1m chart or doing market order or trading on an instrument I have no idea what it is and how it works.
  6. if something goes sideways it's your fault. don't try to blame it on others. dude - it's sad on the tin - over 80% loosing money here! It's like the good old D&D cave - once you enter, gave up all hope.
  7. Use other sites like Trading View and stuff to aid your trade and remember - CFD is not a prime income sorure for anyone on Trading 212!!! It is a tool to help with your investment portfolio. Don't you ever think you would get the money out from CFD if you are like me and only in this game since a few month!
  8. USE THE BLOODY STOP LOSS AND USE THE PRICE ALLERT AT THE SAME TIME ON OTHER PLATFORMS!!! I had this issue before when my Trading212 app just don't pushed the notification onto my phone! ALWAYS use a redundant alert system! I set my Stop Loss on Ethereum just now at 223.18 but I have 224.31 on alert set on both T212 app and TradingVIew as well to make sure there's no fuckup. Remember. If something goes shit - it's your money! Nobody will help you to get your money back cause it's your money and not theirs!

How to find corresponding T212 index on Trading View?

I'm interested in their CFD Index called "Germany30" on the web app, and it's called "Germany 30-19Jun20" on the mobile app.
I wanted to look at this index on the Trading View website, but there are so many different versions of Germany30 / DAX I actually can’t find the exact one that matches up with the price on T212.
Or does Trading View lag a bit, therefore I’ll never be able to match the prices exactly?
If anybody here has a Trading View account, can you help me track it down?

UK Plebs - what are you using *now* to get in on this?

aay.
The current consensus seems to be RH is awful and is in pre-release right now anyway - ameritrade doesn't appear to support non American peeps, and i'm very very leary of doing anything with Degiro without some more research. What do you use and why?
edit: After 1 week and £2,000,000 of money mangling:
IG went down twice, right when something valuable was happening. Also the API is broken. Get a general 'cheap goods' feel from them, and they don't support straight options trading
Trading212 is built on AWS and is tangibly better performing. The UI for desktop is a bit too javascripty with flashy effects and there's a general feeling it was designed mobile first, but I have to admit it's quite pleasant to use. Plan to look at the API at some point.
Edit 2:
InteractiveBrokers gave me an account up to a point but I'm too poor to qualify for their services according to their regulations section. Need $40k+ liquidity to your name before they'll look at you.
Plus500 is nice, if a bit basic and clunky to get started, but the only options trading it offers is CFD which defeats the purpose - at least for me.
Ava Trade is very very 1990's looking for the web platform and the demo only offers forex.
Edit 3:
Ameritrade rejects UK applicants after you've given them your info.
Tradestation does not support any UK banks for initial funding out of the box - waiting for contact.
Bit the bullet and going with Degiro - currently inundated with new applications so _10 days_ delay expected.
Still looking for an actual options broker ;\

Price Comparison For Every Online Broker In Australia

There are a lot of posts on this sub asking for online broker recommendations.
I’ve commented on a few of these posts suggesting that if you’re not doing any exotic or exciting trading, brokers are essentially commodities that all offer the same (or a very similar) service.
If you think that’s true, the main thing you should consider when choosing a broker is the cost.
But because of the tiered pricing structure of many brokers, it becomes difficult to make recommendations without knowing the average trade size of an individual.
Realizing this I did an analysis of brokerage based on trade size. (Green is cheap. Red is expensive.)
There are two things wrong with this:
  1. It doesn’t tell you who the cheapest broker is (because the colours are vague)
  2. I did this some time ago and new brokers have started since
I wanted to make a better, more permanent solution.
So I created a website called TradeCost.io
On this site you can enter any trade size you want up to $1,000,000 (the default is $1,000).
Based on the trade size you enter, the brokerage fee for each online broker is calculated and the table rearranges to order them from least to most expensive:
Example of table sorting
If you need extra features or you’re trying to choose between two brokers I’ve provided some standard information about each broker including:
Example of info popup
Some of the cheaper brokers require you to meet specific criteria to access better pricing, so make sure you check those details in the ‘Fee structure’ info.
A perfect example of this is Saxo who offer ‘Classic’, ‘Platinum’, and ‘VIP’ with each of these tiers available as either participant-sponsored (CHESS) or issuer-sponsored (Custodian):
I tried to be fair by including every broker I could find.
Some brokers who would otherwise be on the list have been excluded because when I called them they weren’t really interested in taking clients who only wanted to trade shares. These were mainly CFD and FX brokers that offer share trading as an additional service to their clients.
If you think I’ve missed a broker or if any of the info on a broker is incorrect, please let me know. I tried to be thorough and called each broker to confirm the additional information so hopefully there aren’t too many issues.
I hope people enjoy the site and it helps you out.
I’m all ears on ways it can be improved so please provide feedback in the comments :)
Just as a heads up the SelfWealth link is my referral link. I don’t make money if you sign up, I just get some free trades.

Daimler cuts dividends after third profit warning

Daimler cuts dividends after third profit warning
Daimler cut its dividends on Tuesday to €0.90 ($0.98) per share after earnings more than doubled in 2019 due to restructuring and legal costs, which is the third profit warning for new CEO Ola Kellenius.

The German automaker cut its dividend offer from 3.25 euros per share in 2018.
Daimler said its net profit fell to 2.7 billion euros, compared with 7.6 billion euros a year earlier, despite record deliveries of Mercedes cars, thanks to which the brand retained its title as the best-selling premium automaker in the world.
The carmaker from Stuttgart said it would seek to cut administrative and staff costs by more than 1.4 billion euros by the end of 2022 to offset the costs of litigation and investment in new technologies.
Daimler said it had booked €4.2 billion for diesel sensors and litigation, and € 828 million for restructuring costs in its van division after Mercedes abandoned its X-Class pickup.
According to the automaker, an additional 405 million. Charges reached a profit after Daimler restructured its mobile services division.
Earnings before interest and taxes (EBIT) fell to 4.3 billion euros from 11.1 billion euros in 2018. Net income fell to 2.7 billion euros from 7.6 billion euros for the same period a year earlier.
According to Daimler, Mercedes-Benz will launch an electric A-class and an electric van this year, keeping investments in real estate, plants, and equipment, as well as research and development costs at about the same level as last year.

What Is Capitalism?

Capitalism is an economic system in which private individuals or businesses own capital goods. The production of goods and services is based on supply and demand in the general market—known as a market economy—rather than through central planning—known as a planned economy or command economy.
The purest form of capitalism is free market or laissez-faire capitalism. Here, private individuals are unrestrained. They may determine where to invest, what to produce or sell, and at which prices to exchange goods and services. The laissez-faire marketplace operates without checks or controls.
Today, most countries practice a mixed capitalist system that includes some degree of government regulation of business and ownership of select industries.

Capitalism

Understanding Capitalism

Functionally speaking, capitalism is one process by which the problems of economic production and resource distribution might be resolved. Instead of planning economic decisions through centralized political methods, as with socialism or feudalism, economic planning under capitalism occurs via decentralized and voluntary decisions.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Capitalism is an economic system characterized by private ownership of the means of production, especially in the industrial sector.
  • Capitalism depends on the enforcement of private property rights, which provide incentives for investment in and productive use of productive capital.
  • Capitalism developed historically out of previous systems of feudalism and mercantilism in Europe, and dramatically expanded industrialization and the large-scale availability of mass-market consumer goods.
  • Pure capitalism can be contrasted with pure socialism (where all means of production are collective or state-owned) and mixed economies (which lie on a continuum between pure capitalism and pure socialism).
  • The real-world practice of capitalism typically involves some degree of so-called “crony capitalism” due to demands from business for favorable government intervention and governments’ incentive to intervene in the economy.

Capitalism and Private Property

Private property rights are fundamental to capitalism. Most modern concepts of private property stem from John Locke's theory of homesteading, in which human beings claim ownership through mixing their labor with unclaimed resources. Once owned, the only legitimate means of transferring property are through voluntary exchange, gifts, inheritance, or re-homesteading of abandoned property.
Private property promotes efficiency by giving the owner of resources an incentive to maximize the value of their property. So, the more valuable the resource is, the more trading power it provides the owner. In a capitalist system, the person who owns the property is entitled to any value associated with that property.
For individuals or businesses to deploy their capital goods confidently, a system must exist that protects their legal right to own or transfer private property. A capitalist society will rely on the use of contracts, fair dealing, and tort law to facilitate and enforce these private property rights.
When a property is not privately owned but shared by the public, a problem known as the tragedy of the commons can emerge. With a common pool resource, which all people can use, and none can limit access to, all individuals have an incentive to extract as much use value as they can and no incentive to conserve or reinvest in the resource. Privatizing the resource is one possible solution to this problem, along with various voluntary or involuntary collective action approaches.

Capitalism, Profits, and Losses

Profits are closely associated with the concept of private property. By definition, an individual only enters into a voluntary exchange of private property when they believe the exchange benefits them in some psychic or material way. In such trades, each party gains extra subjective value, or profit, from the transaction.
Voluntary trade is the mechanism that drives activity in a capitalist system. The owners of resources compete with one another over consumers, who in turn, compete with other consumers over goods and services. All of this activity is built into the price system, which balances supply and demand to coordinate the distribution of resources.
A capitalist earns the highest profit by using capital goods most efficiently while producing the highest-value good or service. In this system, information about what is highest-valued is transmitted through those prices at which another individual voluntarily purchases the capitalist's good or service. Profits are an indication that less valuable inputs have been transformed into more valuable outputs. By contrast, the capitalist suffers losses when capital resources are not used efficiently and instead create less valuable outputs.

Free Enterprise or Capitalism?

Capitalism and free enterprise are often seen as synonymous. In truth, they are closely related yet distinct terms with overlapping features. It is possible to have a capitalist economy without complete free enterprise, and possible to have a free market without capitalism.
Any economy is capitalist as long as private individuals control the factors of production. However, a capitalist system can still be regulated by government laws, and the profits of capitalist endeavors can still be taxed heavily.
"Free enterprise" can roughly be understood to mean economic exchanges free of coercive government influence. Although unlikely, it is possible to conceive of a system where individuals choose to hold all property rights in common. Private property rights still exist in a free enterprise system, although the private property may be voluntarily treated as communal without a government mandate.
Many Native American tribes existed with elements of these arrangements, and within a broader capitalist economic family, clubs, co-ops, and joint-stock business firms like partnerships or corporations are all examples of common property institutions.
If accumulation, ownership, and profiting from capital is the central principle of capitalism, then freedom from state coercion is the central principle of free enterprise.

Feudalism the Root of Capitalism

Capitalism grew out of European feudalism. Up until the 12th century, less than 5% of the population of Europe lived in towns. Skilled workers lived in the city but received their keep from feudal lords rather than a real wage, and most workers were serfs for landed nobles. However, by the late Middle Ages rising urbanism, with cities as centers of industry and trade, become more and more economically important.
The advent of true wages offered by the trades encouraged more people to move into towns where they could get money rather than subsistence in exchange for labor. Families’ extra sons and daughters who needed to be put to work, could find new sources of income in the trade towns. Child labor was as much a part of the town's economic development as serfdom was part of the rural life.

Mercantilism Replaces Feudalism

Mercantilism gradually replaced the feudal economic system in Western Europe and became the primary economic system of commerce during the 16th to 18th centuries. Mercantilism started as trade between towns, but it was not necessarily competitive trade. Initially, each town had vastly different products and services that were slowly homogenized by demand over time.
After the homogenization of goods, trade was carried out in broader and broader circles: town to town, county to county, province to province, and, finally, nation to nation. When too many nations were offering similar goods for trade, the trade took on a competitive edge that was sharpened by strong feelings of nationalism in a continent that was constantly embroiled in wars.
Colonialism flourished alongside mercantilism, but the nations seeding the world with settlements were not trying to increase trade. Most colonies were set up with an economic system that smacked of feudalism, with their raw goods going back to the motherland and, in the case of the British colonies in North America, being forced to repurchase the finished product with a pseudo-currency that prevented them from trading with other nations.
It was Adam Smith who noticed that mercantilism was not a force of development and change, but a regressive system that was creating trade imbalances between nations and keeping them from advancing. His ideas for a free market opened the world to capitalism.

Growth of Industrial Capitalism

Smith's ideas were well-timed, as the Industrial Revolution was starting to cause tremors that would soon shake the Western world. The (often literal) gold mine of colonialism had brought new wealth and new demand for the products of domestic industries, which drove the expansion and mechanization of production. As technology leaped ahead and factories no longer had to be built near waterways or windmills to function, industrialists began building in the cities where there were now thousands of people to supply ready labor.
Industrial tycoons were the first people to amass their wealth in their lifetimes, often outstripping both the landed nobles and many of the money lending/banking families. For the first time in history, common people could have hopes of becoming wealthy. The new money crowd built more factories that required more labor, while also producing more goods for people to purchase.
During this period, the term "capitalism"—originating from the Latin word "capitalis," which means "head of cattle"—was first used by French socialist Louis Blanc in 1850, to signify a system of exclusive ownership of industrial means of production by private individuals rather than shared ownership.
Contrary to popular belief, Karl Marx did not coin the word "capitalism," although he certainly contributed to the rise of its use.

Industrial Capitalism's Effects

Industrial capitalism tended to benefit more levels of society rather than just the aristocratic class. Wages increased, helped greatly by the formation of unions. The standard of living also increased with the glut of affordable products being mass-produced. This growth led to the formation of a middle class and began to lift more and more people from the lower classes to swell its ranks.
The economic freedoms of capitalism matured alongside democratic political freedoms, liberal individualism, and the theory of natural rights. This unified maturity is not to say, however, that all capitalist systems are politically free or encourage individual liberty. Economist Milton Friedman, an advocate of capitalism and individual liberty, wrote in Capitalism and Freedom (1962) that "capitalism is a necessary condition for political freedom. It is not a sufficient condition."
A dramatic expansion of the financial sector accompanied the rise of industrial capitalism. Banks had previously served as warehouses for valuables, clearinghouses for long-distance trade, or lenders to nobles and governments. Now they came to serve the needs of everyday commerce and the intermediation of credit for large, long-term investment projects. By the 20th century, as stock exchanges became increasingly public and investment vehicles opened up to more individuals, some economists identified a variation on the system: financial capitalism.

Capitalism and Economic Growth

By creating incentives for entrepreneurs to reallocate away resources from unprofitable channels and into areas where consumers value them more highly, capitalism has proven a highly effective vehicle for economic growth.
Before the rise of capitalism in the 18th and 19th centuries, rapid economic growth occurred primarily through conquest and extraction of resources from conquered peoples. In general, this was a localized, zero-sum process. Research suggests average global per-capita income was unchanged between the rise of agricultural societies through approximately 1750 when the roots of the first Industrial Revolution took hold.
In subsequent centuries, capitalist production processes have greatly enhanced productive capacity. More and better goods became cheaply accessible to wide populations, raising standards of living in previously unthinkable ways. As a result, most political theorists and nearly all economists argue that capitalism is the most efficient and productive system of exchange.

Capitalism vs. Socialism

In terms of political economy, capitalism is often pitted against socialism. The fundamental difference between capitalism and socialism is the ownership and control of the means of production. In a capitalist economy, property and businesses are owned and controlled by individuals. In a socialist economy, the state owns and manages the vital means of production. However, other differences also exist in the form of equity, efficiency, and employment.

Equity

The capitalist economy is unconcerned about equitable arrangements. The argument is that inequality is the driving force that encourages innovation, which then pushes economic development. The primary concern of the socialist model is the redistribution of wealth and resources from the rich to the poor, out of fairness, and to ensure equality in opportunity and equality of outcome. Equality is valued above high achievement, and the collective good is viewed above the opportunity for individuals to advance.

Efficiency

The capitalist argument is that the profit incentive drives corporations to develop innovative new products that are desired by the consumer and have demand in the marketplace. It is argued that the state ownership of the means of production leads to inefficiency because, without the motivation to earn more money, management, workers, and developers are less likely to put forth the extra effort to push new ideas or products.

Employment

In a capitalist economy, the state does not directly employ the workforce. This lack of government-run employment can lead to unemployment during economic recessions and depressions. In a socialist economy, the state is the primary employer. During times of economic hardship, the socialist state can order hiring, so there is full employment. Also, there tends to be a stronger "safety net" in socialist systems for workers who are injured or permanently disabled. Those who can no longer work have fewer options available to help them in capitalist societies.

Mixed System vs. Pure Capitalism

When the government owns some but not all of the means of production, but government interests may legally circumvent, replace, limit, or otherwise regulate private economic interests, that is said to be a mixed economy or mixed economic system. A mixed economy respects property rights, but places limits on them.
Property owners are restricted with regards to how they exchange with one another. These restrictions come in many forms, such as minimum wage laws, tariffs, quotas, windfall taxes, license restrictions, prohibited products or contracts, direct public expropriation, anti-trust legislation, legal tender laws, subsidies, and eminent domain. Governments in mixed economies also fully or partly own and operate certain industries, especially those considered public goods, often enforcing legally binding monopolies in those industries to prohibit competition by private entities.
In contrast, pure capitalism, also known as laissez-faire capitalism or anarcho-capitalism, (such as professed by Murray N. Rothbard) all industries are left up to private ownership and operation, including public goods, and no central government authority provides regulation or supervision of economic activity in general.
The standard spectrum of economic systems places laissez-faire capitalism at one extreme and a complete planned economy—such as communism—at the other. Everything in the middle could be said to be a mixed economy. The mixed economy has elements of both central planning and unplanned private business.
By this definition, nearly every country in the world has a mixed economy, but contemporary mixed economies range in their levels of government intervention. The U.S. and the U.K. have a relatively pure type of capitalism with a minimum of federal regulation in financial and labor markets—sometimes known as Anglo-Saxon capitalism—while Canada and the Nordic countries have created a balance between socialism and capitalism.
Many European nations practice welfare capitalism, a system that is concerned with the social welfare of the worker, and includes such policies as state pensions, universal healthcare, collective bargaining, and industrial safety codes.

Crony Capitalism

Crony capitalism refers to a capitalist society that is based on the close relationships between business people and the state. Instead of success being determined by a free market and the rule of law, the success of a business is dependent on the favoritism that is shown to it by the government in the form of tax breaks, government grants, and other incentives.
In practice, this is the dominant form of capitalism worldwide due to the powerful incentives both faced by governments to extract resources by taxing, regulating, and fostering rent-seeking activity, and those faced by capitalist businesses to increase profits by obtaining subsidies, limiting competition, and erecting barriers to entry. In effect, these forces represent a kind of supply and demand for government intervention in the economy, which arises from the economic system itself.
Crony capitalism is widely blamed for a range of social and economic woes. Both socialists and capitalists blame each other for the rise of crony capitalism. Socialists believe that crony capitalism is the inevitable result of pure capitalism. On the other hand, capitalists believe that crony capitalism arises from the need of socialist governments to control the economy.

Visa will pay $ 5.3 billion to buy Plaid fintech startup

Visa will pay $ 5.3 billion to buy Plaid fintech startup
Visa Inc said Monday that it agreed to buy the private launch of Plaid Inc software for $5.3 billion, which will expand the payment giant's access to the thriving space of financial technology.
https://preview.redd.it/0p0x982r7xa41.png?width=2000&format=png&auto=webp&s=9752964912d55bfa70107fbb650ee210b5f3c3fb
The deal shows how traditional financial firms are willing to pay the best dollars to acquire companies that have taken strong positions in servicing the digital and cashless economies.
Plaid technology allows people to link their bank accounts to mobile apps like Venmo, Acorns, and Chime, with a San Francisco-based company claiming that every fourth person with a bank account in the US uses it.
The $5.3 billion price quoted on Monday was two times higher than what Plaid reportedly estimated at his last fundraiser, when the $250 million round of C announced in December 2018 was required.
Plaid later revealed that both Visa and rival Mastercard Inc were investors in this round.
Founded in 2013 and currently connected to more than 11,000 financial institutions in the United States, Canada, and Europe, Plaid will be able to use this acquisition to use the global Visa brand to expand its own business, according to a source familiar with this issue.
Visa expects the transaction will be closed within the next three to six months and will benefit from adjusted earnings per share at the end of the third year.
Visa said it will finance the transaction using cash, as well as debt, which will be issued later. The acquisition will not affect previously announced Visa share buyback plans or dividends.
Visa and Plaid respectively used Lazard and Goldman Sachs as financial advisors.

Cheapest Online Broker In Australia For Your Average Trade Size

Yesterday I posted on AusFinance about a site I created to make easy price comparisons between online brokers. u/sloppyrock suggested I cross post to this sub - so here it is :)
If you’re not doing any exotic or exciting trading, brokers are essentially commodities that all offer the same (or a very similar) service.
If you think that’s true, the main thing you should consider when choosing a broker is the cost.
But because of the tiered pricing structure of many brokers, it becomes difficult to make recommendations without knowing the average trade size of an individual.
Realising this I did an analysis of brokerage based on trade size.
So far a lot of the feedback has been to add columns to the table to show more info without having to click on the popup. I'll work on that soon.
Outside of that - I’m all ears on ways it can be improved so please provide feedback in the comments :)
Just as a heads up the SelfWealth link is my referral link. I don’t make money if you sign up, I just get some free trades.

Swedish Central Bank announces the launch of the e-crown project since 2020

Swedish Central Bank announces the launch of the e-crown project since 2020
The Bank of Sweden has announced a plan to develop and test a mechanism for paying for goods using digital currency.
https://preview.redd.it/oxebhuxk90541.png?width=964&format=png&auto=webp&s=304ff5467cdec9317f9a20fad917c762b5cb4752
The press release of the Swedish Central Bank notes that a company has already been selected that will be responsible for the technological aspect of the project.
As part of the project, a digital platform will be developed that allows payments by electronic krona using a mobile phone, credit card, and watch. The Central Bank of Sweden did not explain what kind of watch it means, but, most likely, it's about the so-called smartwatches.
As part of the testing, the platform will also allow simulating the execution of payments within payment systems, retail stores, as well as other parts of the Swedish payment system.
This test phase of electronic krone payments is expected to last until December 31, 2020. At the same time, the central bank allowed further extension of the test period for up to 7 years.
The main goal set by the Bank of Sweden during the implementation of this digital currency project is to expand the understanding of the technological capabilities of the electronic crown.
The Central Bank of Sweden, therefore, becomes one of the first world central banks to begin active testing of the use of digital currency as the primary means of payment instead of traditional paper money.

Which industries will benefit most from 5G?

Which industries will benefit most from 5G?
Today, the whole world is on the verge of introducing a new, fifth generation of mobile communications. The completion of the testing phase and the adoption of standards is expected no earlier than 2020. According to analysts, investments in 5G will open up a wide range of opportunities for companies. The technology will allow organizations leading development in the field of VR, AR, smart cities, digital healthcare to significantly accelerate data transfer.
https://preview.redd.it/rwfz1i4yx5441.png?width=970&format=png&auto=webp&s=50c9f1e5df4df1cbf2d33ee46ee5f3d5de7f26d4
The recent study regarding this matter covering more than 100 large companies that use EDGE-technology (3G, 4G) to develop their solutions. Based on the study, the industries that most need accelerated data transfer and other capabilities provided by 5G were identified.
Intelligent Security Systems.
In security systems, recognition of images and faces in real time in high resolution is now actively used. Basically, such solutions are used to identify potentially dangerous people at public events.
Augmented and Virtual Reality.
Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are technologies that require a lot of bandwidth, which 5G can easily handle. However, AR and VR are not only about immersive games, which are almost the most discussed option for using the new method of data transfer.
Augmented reality is increasingly used in medicine, military training and in the remote management of IT equipment. With 5G technology, the capabilities of each industry will become much wider. For example, using touch devices it will be possible to interact with virtual 3D objects in space, so that future surgeons will be able to carry out virtual operations to train delicate surgical techniques that are used when stitching blood vessels or performing other manipulations.
Smart cities.
Another area that will gain new opportunities after the introduction of 5G is smart cities. The main areas of its application are autonomous transport and monitoring the condition of the city as a whole. These operations are based on constantly improved machine learning algorithms that, due to the huge amount of data collected by various sensors throughout the city, do their work for weeks or even months.
Therefore, it becomes necessary to collect all data from hundreds and thousands of sensors at a central point and combine them with the ability to access a variety of external sources of weather information, planned road works, road accidents, etc. 5G will become a vital component of cities of the future.
To provide all these functions, a variety of sensors in the city daily produce more than 300 thousand observations. To control and use all the information for smart cities, a faster data transfer will be needed, which is possible with just 5G.

Is Karatbit and Karatbars a scam?

On Tuesday 16th July, just a few weeks ago I was invited to attend a Karatbit, Karatbars/Karatbank presentation. The presentation was touting everything including a blockchain mobile phone. Someone had approached me over the weekend to investigate an investment, they had made with Karatbit/Karatbars. I attended the presentation with some research which, to be honest, was not that favourable to the company but nevertheless still went with an open mind.
KaratBank, a Singapore-based financial organization, has propelled another digital currency that it claims is bound to real physical gold. Is this a progressive thought – or a trick?
KaratBank, an organization located in Singapore, has quite recently declared the dispatch of KaratBank Coins (KBC), another digital currency it said is attached to gold. Be that as it may, not just the cost of gold, as different monetary forms — to real bits of gold: they're embedded in plastic cards or banknotes. In any event, that is the way it appears upon first sight.
KaratBank is a sister company of KaratBars International, located in Germany. KaratBars really sells gold in exceptionally small quantities (like 0.1g to 1g bullions), inserted into plastic cards (Karatbars) or money like notes (CashGold). The notes are famously overpriced: back when 1 gram of gold was $40, the 1g CashGold note cost $65.
As per KaratBank whitepaper, 10,000 KBC can be traded for 0.1g CashGold notes.
The initial coin offering kicked off earlier this year and proceeded until March 21, with the ICO starting March 22 (1 KBC = $0.05), Coin Telegraph reports.
Be that as it may, KaratBars International as an organization is emphatically connected with scams. A basic search for KaratBars on Google returns three connections with the word "scam" in them on the first page. KaratBars was prohibited in Canada in 2014 over an Autorité des marchés agents (AMF) with a Scam warning.
The Canadian government found that KaratBars executes some kind of multi-layered marketing (MLM), or "pyramid" scheme organisation that urged individuals to get new recruits and profit from their sales, promising a return of $15,000 to $136,000 every month.
In any case, Is KaratBank is a different story? All things considered, yes and no. Upon a more intensive look at the organization's whitepaper, one finds the following:
"United States of America citizens, residents (tax or otherwise) or green card holders, as well as residents of Canada, the People's Republic of China or the Republic of Singapore, are not qualified to partake in the KaratBank ICO."
As indicated by the Behind MLM site, the explanation behind this may lie in the way that those nations have actualized strict regulation on ICOs, and KaratBank does not have any desire to have anything to do with them.
"ICOs are not unlawful in the US or Canada. In the US, however, ICOs are ordinarily viewed as securities and require registration with the [Securities and Exchange Commission]," the site reads. "Singapore hasn't prohibited ICOs however it is one of the nations KaratBars International works in through the shell companies KaratPay and KaratBars Singapore. Singapore regulators closing those organizations down would cripple KaratBars International. The board most likely figure it's best not to take any risks."
To work lawfully in any purview, KaratBars International would need to register itself with the proper securities regulator in that jurisdiction, which the organization appears to need to abstain from, raising doubts.
From one's point of view what is disheartening is that blockchain is a great new technology and companies like this seem to mix their existing business with cryptocurrencies. Knowing full well that the general public does not really understand cryptocurrencies, let alone blockchain or Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). As a blockchain consultant, one feels obligated to pose some questions anyone thinking of getting involved should be asking.
At the presentation, I heard the presenters say “ Karatbars is giving its members the opportunity to buy gold in small quantities. They also encourage you to save in gold instead of paper money. This can easily be done by buying as little as 0.1 gram of gold or 1 gram - 2.5 gram or 5 grams.”
They said members can keep their gold in Karatbars' vault or ask them to send it to you. Cash gold is the most popular form of buying gold as the gold is embedded in a banknote. 24kt gold 99.9% pure makes it easier for anyone to accumulate wealth.
Karatbars is also involved in cryptocurrency and got their own coins, namely KBC and KCB coins. I'm going to get very deep into this, but the main thing to remember is that they say, “these coins are increasing in value and that it is backed by gold”. whereas and another Cryptocurrency is backed by nothing.
As a self-proclaimed proponent of blockchain and a graduate of Digital Forensics, I feel obligated to say a few words about this presentation on Karatbit or at least as a conscious citizen of this global world of technology users. Blockchain is a magnificent emerging technology that can be harnessed to do so many things. But most importantly it is a technology that provides one single source of truth. If groups are using this single source of truth technology to spread untruths, someone concerned must come out to say something. Blockchain is a technology that can put everyone on an even playing field but it seems very few understand it. The individuals with even the fleeting basic understanding can influence the general public perception of cryptocurrencies. This leads me to ask a great quote from a book called Richest Man in Babylon …. “if you want advice on investing in expensive jewels, why would you go to a butcher?”
The following is what the masses are being manipulated to attach their hopes and dreams. It is that “a further drop in the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has recently left investors nursing heavy losses. Many proponents are holding out for a new breakout “if their digital assets can go mainstream.”
The most important part of that statement is “if their digital assets can go mainstream”. This made me ask some questions about Karatbit and this is what I came up with.
Something is fishy!! Can someone clarify the following?
Claim 1: Gold mine worth $900 million provides security.

Claim 2: Backed by a gold mine in Africa

Claim 5: Not a pyramid scheme
Karatbit describes this as an affiliate program but clearly is a pyramid scheme at best, see links below;

Claim 6: 100KBC = 1g of Gold at $40 per gram (1 KBC = $0.40) (guaranteed)
Total supply = 12,000,000,000 KBC (can’t find figures of circulating, so using supply instead)
Total gold needed to cover buy back of all coins:
12,000,000,000 / 100 = 120 000 000g = 120 tons (South Africa as a whole produced 139.9 tons of Gold in 2017).
Total money needed to buy back all the coins:
120 000 000g x $40 = $4.8 Billion
Can’t find proof that they have 120 tons of gold in storage (or backed up by the mines as claimed) or that they are at least worth $4.8 Billion to buy the gold?
Taking a more conservative approach:
According to icobench.com, they raised $100 000 000 with their ICO from 60% of the total supply.
Let’s assume the 60% of 12,000,000,000 is in circulation. This equals to 7,200,000,000 KBC.
Total gold needed for the buyback of 7,200,000,000 KBC:
7,200,000,000 / 100 = 72 000 000g = 72 tons
Total money needed to buy back all coins:
72 000 000g x $40 = $2.88 Billion
Loss for buying back the KBC that were sold during the ICO:
$100,000,000 - $2,880,000,000 = - $2,780,000,000
A potential loss of $2,78 Billion!!! Or am I taking crazy pills?

There is no traditional editing of contributors’ copy, at least not prior to publishing. If a story gets hot or makes the homepage, a producer will “check it more carefully,” DVorkin said.

“Warning over 'scammers paradise' as watchdog reveals victims lost £27m to bitcoin, cryptocurrency and forex frauds last year”
• Some 1,850 cases were reported to Action Fraud, a 250% increase on 2017-18
• Victims lost an average of £14,600 - with fewer than 1 in 20 getting money back
• Investors are often initially told they've made a profit
• They are then encouraged to put in more money - at which point the fraudsters run off with their cash
Potential victims have been warned over bogus online 'get rich quick' schemes as it emerged people lost more than £27million to cryptocurrency and foreign exchange scams last year.
Fraudsters promise high returns to those who invest, according to Action Fraud and the Financial Conduct Authority.
Victims lost an average of £14,600 in 2018-19 and stand little chance of getting their money back.
Reports of cryptocurrency and forex investment scams increased by nearly 250 per cent in 2017-18, from 530 to nearly 1,850.
The scams work by criminals promoting get-rich-quick online trading platforms through social media. Posts often use fake celebrity endorsements and images of luxury items like expensive watches and cars.
Beat the scammers:
These then link to professional-looking websites where consumers are persuaded to invest.
Often investors are led to believe their first investment has successfully returned a profit, and are then enticed to invest more money or introduce friends in return for greater profits.
But the returns stop, the customer account is closed, and the scammer disappears with no further contact.
'Anyone handing over their hard-earned cash should make sure they understand what they're getting into, they've checked it's a legitimate investment, and not rely on hype and excitement from friends or social media.
'Investing isn't a get-rich-quick scheme - and anything that uses fear of missing out or requires you to invest before thinking is best to be avoided.'
Those considering an investment to check the following for tips on how to avoid investment fraud at www.fca.org.uk/scamsmart.
Scammers can be very convincing so always do your own research into any firm you are considering investing with, to make sure that they are the real deal.
'It's vital that people carry out the necessary checks to ensure that an investment they're considering is legitimate.
UK consumers are being increasingly targeted by crypto asset-related investment scams.
Certain crypto assets, like Bitcoin and Ether (also known as cryptocurrencies), are not regulated in the UK. This means that buying, selling or transferring these crypto-assets falls outside FCA remit. The same is true for the operation of a cryptocurrency exchange.
However, some types of crypto-asset products may be or may involve regulated investments depending on their nature and how they are structured. For example, firms that sell regulated investments with an underlying crypto asset element may need to be authorised by the FCA to do so.
In recent months, the FCA claims it has received an increasing number of reports about crypto-asset investment scams. Some of them may involve regulated activities, others don’t, but all use similar tactics.
How crypto-asset investment scams work
Cryptoasset fraudsters tend to advertise on social media – often using the images of celebrities or well-known individuals to promote cryptocurrency investments. In this case, laughably they said KaratBit was endorsed by Barak Obama’s sister. Who is she and what does she know about cryptocurrencies and blockchain? The ads then link to professional-looking websites. Consumers are then persuaded to make investments with the firm using cryptocurrencies or traditional currencies.
The firms operating the scams are usually based outside the UK but will claim to have a UK presence, often a prestigious City of London address.
Scam firms can manipulate software to distort prices and investment returns. They may scam people into buying the non-existent crypto asset. They are also known to suddenly close consumers’ online accounts and refuse to transfer the funds to them or ask for more money before the funds can be transferred.
Action Fraud has also issued a warning on cryptocurrency scams.
How to protect yourself
Be wary of adverts online and on social media promising high returns on investments in a crypto asset or crypto asset-related products.
Most firms advertising and selling investments in crypto-assets are not authorised by the FCA. This means that if you invest in certain crypto assets you will not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if things go wrong.
The FCA doesn’t regulate crypto assets like Bitcoin or Ether which are vastly the most recognized cryptocurrencies, let alone KBC, they do regulate certain crypto-asset derivatives (such as futures contracts, CFDs and options), as well as those crypto assets I would consider securities. A firm must be authorised by FCA to advertise or sell these products in the UK – check FCA Register to make sure the firm is authorised. You can also check the FCA Warning List of firms to avoid.
You should do further research on the product you are considering and the firm you are considering investing with. Check with Companies House to see if the firm is registered as a UK company and for directors' names. To see if others have posted any concerns, search online for the firm's name, directors' names and the product you are considering.
If you’ve already decided you want to invest in gold, this might not be a bad company to side with. But if you’re just looking for an opportunity to earn a sustainable income and become financially independent, there are better options out there.
